Season 1 – Episode 1: Butternut Squash Soup
This was my first attempt at doing a cooking demonstration. I could tell you who is not “The Next Food Network Star”, or the next “Top Chef”.
I learned a lot from making this, “don’t touch your nose when cooking”, “look into the camera”, “know how much fits on a memory card“, “prep everything first instead of editing it all out“, “tv chefs don’t wear sweats” and a little something about the actual cooking around 7 or so minutes in — make sure you get that far.
Note: On 2/28/2010 I cut a few inconsequential bits from the video to fit to YouTube’s 10 minute limit, which as a side benedit allows it to be hosted in HD. I also added a more appropriate ending credits tune…

I need to give that soup a taste is sounds awesome. I love curry, but please hold the F*ck!!!!
Awesome video! I do like the curry twist to your recipe.
OMG..that is soooo FUNNY!! I would have spilled the soup long before you did! Loved the part about growing up eating burgers & steak- sounds familiar! Also in my house the Jewish version of spaghetti & meatballs was with Ketchup!
Well like most Jewish girls, I’m great at reservations! So I’ll stay tuned to the next cooking lesson!
I got a really good laugh. Schaden Freude!
I can’t wait for the Iron Chef version. Iron Pyrite Chef?
IMO, your first investment should be for a mic you to wear. Then maybe a camera pointed down at your work surface.
>>>“prep everything first instead of editing it all out“
I kinda liked the editing to show the passage of time.
Andy — this brought back wonderful memories!!!! Great website -great recipes and…. you gotta get on Sat night live!
Hysterical! What’s not to love about a Jew cooking bacon and saving the fat for corn muffins?
That was pretty friggin funny. I love the slowmo. Looked like something out ofa war movie. You should rename the episode Butternut Jihad
Please learn some knife skills before you hurt yourself. Or, next time the blooper replay will be of you slicing your hand instead of spilling a pot of soup.
Thanks for the feedback Rachel, but its hard to tell if you are serious or messing with me 🙂 If serious, I’d love to know where you thought I was callous (I’d like to review and improve). I have always thought I was pretty good with a knife (and I took a course for it at the CIA), but never got incredibly fast or demonstrated mad skillz.
This being said, this pretty much guarantees that I will cut myself tonight!

No matter how many times I watch the video, I find myself almost in tears from laughter.
